Total Area: 17,075,200 square kilometers (larger than the United States)

Bordering Countries: Norway, Finland, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania and Poland (both with Kaliningrad Oblast), Belarus, Ukraine, Georgia, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, China, Mongolia, and North Korea

Coastline: 37,653 km

Climate: A typical continental climate (mostly cool and dry). Extensive regions across the country experience frigid temperatures, frequent snow, and permafrost, even into the summer months. Siberia has an average yearly temperature of below freezing, and European Russia does not tend to get above 10 degrees Celsius.

Terrain: Most of the country is taiga, though there are mountain ranges and large forests throughout the country. Russia is so large that a great degree of topographical variance is expected, but it is mostly dry and rocky (steppe-like) or taiga across the board.

Lowest Elevation: Caspian Sea (-28 meters)

Highest Elevation: Gora El’brus (5,633 meters)
